If you've spent any time reading The Salty Details, you've probably noticed that we include price ranges and dollar sign ratings in our Gimme Some Grub 🦞 sections.

One thing I've learned over the years is that "expensive" means something different to everyone. A family of four planning a beach vacation may view dining costs very differently than a couple enjoying a weekend getaway.

That's why I thought it might be helpful to explain the pricing system we use when reviewing restaurants.








The Dollar Sign Breakdown 💵

$ — Inexpensive

Under $10 per person

Think quick-service restaurants, food trucks, sandwich shops, ice cream stops, and grab-and-go beach eats.

Perfect when you want to save your vacation budget for excursions, souvenirs, or that extra night by the water.

$$ — Moderate

$11–$30 per person

This is where most casual beach restaurants fall.

You'll find family-friendly seafood spots, local cafes, burger joints, breakfast restaurants, and many waterfront dining options.

For most travelers, this is the sweet spot between affordability and experience.

$$$ — Expensive

$31–$60 per person

This category typically includes upscale casual restaurants, specialty seafood restaurants, steakhouses, and chef-driven local favorites.

These are often the places you choose for a special dinner during your trip.

$$$$ — Ultra High-End

$60+ per person

Fine dining experiences, premium steakhouses, tasting menus, and destination restaurants.

These are the splurge-worthy spots where the experience is often just as important as the meal itself.








Our Salty Perspective 🌊

When we review restaurants, we're not just looking at the price.

We're asking questions like:

  • Was the food worth the cost?

  • Would we go back?

  • Did the atmosphere add to the experience?

  • Was the service good?

  • Did it fit the overall vibe of the destination?

Sometimes a simple fish basket eaten at a picnic table overlooking the ocean creates a better memory than an expensive meal.

And sometimes that special waterfront dinner is exactly what makes a trip unforgettable.

Why We Include Pricing

Our goal isn't to tell you where to spend your money.

Our goal is to help you decide whether a restaurant fits your budget, your travel style, and the season you're in.

Because at the end of the day, some of the best beach memories aren't made at the most expensive places.

They're made sharing seafood baskets, watching the waves roll in, and enjoying the people sitting around the table with you.
